At just 49 years old, Aaron Martens passes away after his courageous battle with brain cancer. An accomplished angler to say the least, and a leader of the sport of fishing that will not be forgotten.
Hailing from the Golden State, he simply had a dominating presence on just about any water he touched. With multiple wins on multiple different styles of water; from Bassmasters to the FLW and then on to the MLF, there wasn’t much of an area where he didn’t shine.
He was a three-time Bassmaster Angler Of The Year, collected more than $3,000,000 in total career winnings thanks to multiple wins, and over 100 Top-20 Finishes, with 82 of them being in the Top-10! 11 Wins on the board, and you could say he’s easily had one of the most successful careers in the history of Professional Fishing.
"...There are many, many words that could be used to describe Aaron – talented, competitive, kind, creative, funny, thoughtful, gifted, sweet, quirky, generous. The world knew Aaron because of his brilliance at his craft, but for those who were fortunate enough to enjoy his presence in their lives, he’ll be remembered for the roles he played (and loved) the very best: loving father, devoted husband, beloved son and brother, dear friend and faithful believer..."
We’d like to ask that you send some prayers to his family and close friends. He is survived by his wife Lesley, his children Jordan and Spencer, and his mother Carol.
He is absolutely an inspiration, and his legacy will live on.
"...Martens initially honed his fishing skills on famed trophy factory Castaic Lake in southern California, fishing tournaments with his mother, Carol. After a storied career on numerous regional circuits, he qualified for the Bassmaster Top 150 tour through the Bassmaster Western Opens, and subsequently fished on various iterations of that tour, including the Bassmaster Elite Series, from 1999 through 2018. Along the way he qualified for and competed in 20 Bassmaster Classics, finishing in the top 10 on 9 occasions, including four runner-up finishes..."
