Breaking Down The Cultural Coast
For the purpose of LocalAngler, we’ve defined the Cultural Coast region as the following counties: Sarasota County, Desoto County and Charlotte County.
From Venice to Sarasota, you’ve got your pick of a wide variety of fish to be caught here. From Snook to Spanish Mackerel to Flounder and more, you’ll be able to put a dent in your species bucket list. If freshwater is your thing, then there’s plenty of creeks and ponds around that will provide a quality bite!
Have you heard of the Peace River? It’s an awesome scenic river that is full of fossils, fish, and good memories. Don’t count this one out, and it’s definitely worth a trip! Who knows what you could find there! As far as saltwater goes, the south portion of the counties access to the Peace River does provide some species that frequent the area. Snook often come through towards the mouth of the river.
This is sort of a saltwater anglers dream area. Especially those that like to fish for Tarpon. Gasperilla Sound and Charlotte Harbor provide home to many inshore species, as well as the various offshore species that like to wander inland as far as they can go. This area is not only riddled with inshore preserves, but also miles of canal system that is just waiting for you to catch some fish!
