Breaking Down The Gold Coast
For the purpose of LocalAngler, we’ve defined the Gold Coast region as the following counties: Miami-Dade County and Broward County.
When it comes to the inland fishery, there’s miles and miles of canal system that are riddled with Peacock Bass, Freshwater Snook, Largemouth Bass and even the occasional Tarpon, in addition to a ton of other cichlids and freshwater species. This isn’t even tapping into the off-shore capabilities of this area, where there’s a quite a few reefs, wrecks and drop-offs to catch sailfish, mahi, swordfish, and any number of other pelagic species!
Alligator Alley seems to be a place to go. You’ll want to make sure you pay close attention, as for it’s namesake, it’s not a liar. There’s Alligators everywhere, but the fishing is absolutely awesome for Largemouth Bass. Quite arguably one of the best places for a 5 fish bag in Florida. I say arguably. In addition to a few other freshwater notables, you’d be hard pressed not to hit one of the many piers on the Broward County shoreline, as you can catch a variety of quality fish right from land.
