Breaking Down The Treasure Coast
For the purpose of LocalAngler, we’ve defined the Treasure Coast region as the following counties: Indian River County, St. Lucie County, Martin County, and Palm Beach County.
Indian River County
There’s a lot to talk about here, but in terms of keeping it brief… Just west of a little town called Fellsmere there’s a few bodies of freshwater that happen to have unparalleled bass fishing. We’ll definitely be taking a dive into these. From a saltwater perspective, you can’t beat Sebastian area for inshore fishing and even inlet fishing. Snook are plentiful, generally.
St. Lucie County
The Roosevelt Bridge is often a hot spot for rolling Tarpon and bottom jigging Snook. There’s a specific jig that is really well known in this area; anyone know what it is? Ft. Pierce is also known for the world record Spotted Seatrout that weighed in over 17 lbs! What a gator!
Martin County is no stranger to a good time when it comes to Tarpon along the beach through the summer months and is also known to be a stellar Sailfish and pelagic species fishery. Sailfish Alley is a well known where warm water surges from the Gulf Stream and becomes a great target for local anglers.
Palm Beach County
While there’s no taking away from the amazing offshore fishing that goes on here, it does start to get a little more exotic here, as there’s an awesome freshwater fiasco that has developed into a popular targeted species. The Peacock Bass is seen as far north as Palm Beach County. When it comes to your next fishing trip, you may want to plan for a few days to get your fix!
